When Music enlightens History

As an interpreter of hundreds of years old musical works, I wonder the purpose of playing them when they have been so many times performed and recorded… Shouldn’t I dedicate myself to composition?

I must admit that when I’m working on a masterpiece, I start from a blank page. I transpose it, I play it with reversed hands, I copy the score learnt by heart, I sing the medium voices, I improvise on it… and I immerse myself in the geopolitical context of the composer (a big challenge for me, with my poor record track at history and geography ratings at school!).
